About

I’m a mid-20s handspinner and fiber artist. I’ve been handspinning (drop spindle) for about 5 years now. I’ve been knitting for close to 16 years. I have no qualms about knitting with anything and everything, and I’ve tried my hand at a number of different techniques. I love Aran style knits and lace, but I sometimes go through cycles where I get stuck on garter stitch scarves and other comfort knitting type projects.

I hand dye a little with koolaide and other low impact dyes.

I am more than slightly interested in horror in popular culture. I have a Masters in sociology concentrating on social deviance and family studies, but horror culture has always been a huge interest. At some point it started showing up in larger and larger amounts on this blog, so I decided to just work with it, and Horrific Knits was born.

I’m also sort of accidentally green, in that I’m more frugal than I am green but the two tend to overlap because I find that being green helps my wallet as well as my overall living environment. I’ve turned into something of a rabid frugal foodie in recent weeks, since I now have a ‘real’ kitchen. I live with my partner of 3 years, and he is gladly eating the fruits of my labor. I like knowing what’s in my food and I like being able to make food that tastes good to us, not what other people thinks it should taste like.

I love thrifting and thrift store finds. I love old textiles and have an obsession with all things Interwar America.

I also have a slight (heh) obsession with Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab that sometimes leaks into blogland.
