Haunted Western New York- Julia (Sauquoit)

picture is unrelated.

You’re right.

Sauquoit is not Western New York. But this is one of those side trips that I said that we may take.

In Sauquoit, which is on the outskirts of Utica, is a restuarant called Orchard Hall. It’s a good sized white building with a lot of trees. The structure is dated to the early 1840s. It is believed that the building may be one of the local stops on the underground railroad.

Orchard Hall is believed to be haunted by a woman named Julia. Julia is said to haunt the upper floor of the building, but I remember hearing stories that the entire structure was active while I was growing up.

According to local legend (though this is fairly new to me), Julia lived in a room called the Red Room because of the decorating scheme. It is said that she bled to death after her partner found out she was carrying his child. Other variations have her being accidentally shot in the bar. Some accounts have her moving a rocking chair like she is rocking a child.

She seems to be a fairly gentle spirit.
